If you’re working in or want to work in the civil construction industry, RII30919 Certificate III in Civil Construction (Road Construction and Maintenance) covers the more specific skills of Australia’s road networks, highway upgrades and infrastructure and understanding all types of roads and pavements and the associated complex drainage and culvert requirements.

This qualification reflects the role of a skilled operator working on road networks, highway infrastructure and the relevant machinery.

Entry Requirements

You are over 15 years of age (if you’re under 18, your parent or guardian must sign the enrolment form on your behalf).
You are already working within Civil Construction and want to gain additional skills and knowledge or you would like to enter the civil construction industry.
Your language, literacy and numeracy will be evaluated to identify any support requirements.


This course is 3-year full time apprenticeship.


Workplace based training and assessment.
Demonstration, Observation, Oral Question, Third Party Evidence. 

This training is subsidised by the NSW Government.

Assessment Methods

This program is hands on and will provide you with the practical skills and knowledge to undertake a range of manual tasks and operate machinery on construction sites. After successfully completing this course you will have a solid foundation of the skills and knowledge needed to work in the civil construction industry.

This course is delivered with both theory and practical elements, with a mixture of classroom, group discussions, and individual research.

Assessments are completed to measure your skills and knowledge against the training qualification requirements and those of the industry. The assessment process will include written and practical presentations, observation and classroom participation and will require some time away from the training rooms completing assignments.
